Racer's TestimonialsWhat are racers saying about Continental's ContiAttack Race tires?"Two thumbs up for Conti's....they are my tire of choice, and have done nothing but back me up out on the track." "I gave the Conti's a try and was very pleased with them. They're very predictable in what they're going to do. I wasn't weary of them going away even on a cold track temperature. They stuck at a moderate pace with temperatures in the low 40's down at Jennings this past weekend. I'm definitely going to be running them this year." -WERA N #859 "On my First race weekend at summit, I registered late, and started anywhere from 26-29. I busted my ass out there, and dropped 2 seconds off my lap times just from my racing speed, and I NEVER thought about my tires for one second. I just trusted them, and they were always there for me....I never had a reason to think about them. I was ending up anywhere between 12th and 17th place....a good first race weekend in my book. I trust these tires, and I have pushed them to my personal limits. Including going SUPER hot into T1, braking hard, pulling an Indo, then, running it wide...and making the turn by slamming the bike down on its side just to finish the turn out....while getting on the Throttle! That was fun, ha ha. And when I look back on it, I am amazed that the tires did everything they are suppose to. These tires are DEFINATLY one of the TOP brands on the market, with excellent Payouts. My thoughts on using these on my SV650 a few weeks ago is that they are potentially better than Pirellis. I don't know for sure how Conti soft relates to a Pirelli soft, but if they are supposed to be the same then the Contis are better. I normally run Pirelli supersoft front and soft rear. These 'harder' compound Contis worked better for me than Pirellis have at Summit. I set them at the recommend cold temps which I can't remember right now other than being several psi lower than what I set Pirellis to. I don't use tire warmers either. One lap was plenty adequate to get up to temperature. 1:24s-:25s from a standing start while getting held up from T5 on, so that was on par with Pirellis. One thing I noticed is that normally I would get some rear end squirm going through the carousel, especially towards the end of a race when the tires are at their hottest. This never happened with the Contis, in fact I could absolutely hammer the throttle WFO at full lean through the carousel. That was awesome. That gave me a really strong drive through T7 into T8 where I was often making passes on the outside (two at a time even). So far the wear is great. My lap times were obviously on par with others, I got a win, 2nd and 3rd out of three lightweight races. I also did the Middleweight Supersport race on it too since it was back to back with Lightweight Supersport. I finished 9th of 15 in that. I was at the back of a pack of 4 or 5 600s for most of the race. There was nothing I could do about that because I would get left behind on the straight and on the way to T3. I wasn't setting personal bests for Summit but I was close to what I was running last year. The track changes so much between events it's impossible to make an accurate comparison of lap times. I know the track surface was better last year. I'll further test the wear characteristics at VIR in a few weeks. One of the best things of all is that I earned $100 for my Ultra-Lightweight Superbike win. The grid was too small for Pirelli to pay out. I made $190 running Contis, I would've made $150 on the Pirellis. I would have to win two Lightweight races per weekend for it to be worth running Pirellis and that's not counting the likelihood of these Contis lasting longer I have been on Pirelli since I started racing and was kind of leary about the Conti's to be honest... I can assure you that these are so similar in every respect to the Diablo SC it's not even funny... I tried them during an endurance format trackday at NJMP Thunderbolt a few weeks back in 90degree temps and was amazed at the grip and feedback i got from these tires. I threw everything I had at them and they did not fail me or put any shodow of doubt to their performance... They slide as predictably and are as controllable as the Diablo... They are the same running dia as the Diablo so no geometry changes are necessary... I ran 27/25 cold psi... Hot was pretty much right on with the norm of 31/29... The longevity and reliability is great for the money spent... As the only CON i experienced with the tire... I would not suggest running them without warmers... Continental is certainly on the move now. We have been running them for a bit now and getting a really good sense of what the tires are capable of. I think we are on our 6th or 7th set. So far, we have nothing but positive feedback. On one occasion, we had to use another big4 brand on the rear and my son wanted it off as soon as possible. He has the Conti's working really well for him now and is not comfortable on the other tire anymore. Zero complaints on grip and spin-up predictability. Lots of front end grip allowing him to push it deep into the corners. Straight line stability is excellent. We just did a practice day at Buttonwillow using the dragstrip where he was hitting nearly 150. Wear has been on-par with any of the other brands. We have a favorite setup running med/med DOT on the GSXR600 and a soft/med DOT on the SV650. Seems to give us the best overall wear and grip. Have not run slicks yet as we can't race them. Just make sure that you set your hot pressures. We run 30psi front and 28psi rear hot. At those pressures, everything works REALLY well." -Javelin Broderick #814 "I raced on Dunlop last year, and used Michelin (non-racing) before that. I tried Conti's for the first time at Jennings this weekend. I really liked the extra feedback from the softer carcass; I always knew what both tires were doing, but it never felt squishy or jello-y. It especially shined on the edge grip. The feed back at lean is phenomenal. The back section (T5-T11) I was able to get on the gas earlier and harder than I ever have before. my corner speeds were definitely higher than before. On Sunday I was planning to really get after them to see how the slid and spun up. I got a few spins on saturday (Vito was following me and said I left a black mark out of T11 - I never noticed) super easy to control and predictable. But I really wanted to shag the tire on Sunday and as fate would have I only got to ride two sessions. The stopwatch is the ultimate judge. My personal best lap around Jennings is a 22.88, which is a decent time. Not fast, but decent. I did that on a superstock 06 GSXR 750. On Saturday, I borrowed a 2000 R6. After 3 sessions or so, I was at a 24.4, about 1.5s off my personal best lap. On a 10 yr old bike missing 35hp from my 750. I didn't really feel like I was pushing, the corner speeds were easy to carry b/c of the edge grip. Vito said I looked like I was on vacation. With more laps I really think I coulda got down into the low 23s, I was still being a pussy on the brakes and on the T1 and T13 entrances, but I was pretty well satisfied for limited time on an older bike." "I'm not a fast guy (lets see what vosnick says) but I'm convinced. I'll be on contis next year. Nobody makes a bad tire anymore, so I'm not going to rip the other manufacturers. The conti is the real deal and has out-of-this-world edge grip and feedback. Drive grip was great; I felt like I could get the maximum drive off every corner b/c I knew exactly when the wheel would start to spin, and they always stayed in line when they did it. Combine all that with the price and for me its a no brainer." -Marcus Blair "My son says the Pirelli rear feels nothing like the Conti. The Conti doesn't have that squishy feel on the rear when driving hard off the corners. Maybe the comparison is more about profile and handling since they are similar in that regard. Traction characteristics are miles apart. More like a Dunlop. Lots of traction with a nice smooth feedback to the rider at the edge of grip. Easy to spin up predictably." -Javelin Broderick #814 "Conti's are good tires. They will be a more recognized tire in the paddock next season and for seasons to come I'm sure of it. I tested them for Dale of Dragonknee Racing back in June and posted a write up on my experience.........good all the way around for my first time on the tires. Would like to get on them again." -Brandon Cretu WERA Expert #147 |
